Kimono Art Experience - Wind Illustrations

Hands-on workshop experience offered by a traditional Kimono art craftsman. A rare technique to see even in Kyoto, of wind illustrations called "Fūsaizome" which means wind color dye. This is the only studio in Kyoto where you can experience Fūsaizome artwork first hand. Make your very own one-of-a-kind piece. We also offer tours of the studio, Kimono dress-up experiences with photographs, etc.

Issin Kobou has been in the Kimono processing industry for close to a century with respected Kimono craftsman making beautiful wind pattern artwork passed down from generation to generation. Now it has opened up its doors to show this exquisite and delicate process of the Kimono industry in Kyoto.

Studio Workshop
Take home a piece of Japan with your one-of-a-kind design on high quality Kimono fabric. Choose from neckties, handkerchiefs, fans, lamps, totes, scarves, small purses and more! From traditional patterns to Alice in Wonderland or Cinderella stencils, your imagination is the limit!

Studio Tour
Visit an authentic Japanese kimono processing studio to see the work of real Kimono craftsman first hand. This traditional workshop has been in operation for over 80 years in Kyoto.

Kimono Photoshoot
Have your photographs taken wearing beautiful authentic Kimono made and designed with most meticulous processing and care. Some of which have received countless awards and recognition by the mayor of Kyoto prefecture. You may also see pieces that have been exhibited at the cultural Museum of Kyoto.

Lanterns, Fukusa(Traditional gift-wrapping textile), handkerchief will take 5 days and Fans, pouches and neckties will take up to two weeks to process with finishing wind illustrations and anti color running. We can send you the finished product if you are no longer in Japan when it’s done. Kimono fabric (20x38cm) is available to take home that day but anti color running processing will not be done so do not get it wet. Add a Japanese character of your choice and decorate in a frame for your own original piece of art! (+1000 Yen/ Character)
Generally, the shop is open everyday, so same-day reservations are accepted.
